1. Jay McTighe’s new note to UbD workshop participants
Jay has added to the note he sent earlier.  Pasted below is the note that includes the previous message and the addition.  If you did not get the chance to read the previous one, this one includes both.

To:    Participants in the UbD Workshop on January 21-22, 2016
From:   Jay McTighe

I am looking forward to working with you during the upcoming 2-day workshop on Understanding by Design (UbD).  As a part of the Institute, participants will have the opportunity to apply ideas from the session to a unit design.  In preparation for the experience, you are encouraged to bring resource materials (curriculum standards, textbooks, assessment ideas, scoring rubrics, etc.) to support your design work on a selected unit or course topic. If you have a copy of the UbD Professional Development Workbook please bring it as it is  the main resource for the session.

If you are attending the workshop with one or more colleagues, you may plan to work together on a design. You are encouraged to bring a laptop computer or tablet in order to access electronic versions of the UbD unit design template and a set of excellent UbD-supportive websites for many subjects.

Although optional, you will have the opportunity to use the EduTect UbD Unit Planner a helpful and "intelligent" tool that embodies the backward design process and gives you the ability to share unit plans with your peers during the session. The Planner is provided as part of a 30-day free trial, so that after the workshop, you will be able to work on your unit and share other units developed by colleagues. You can also export your units to MS Word or PDF files

Regardless of whether you work electronically with the Unit Planner or on paper to register for the Unit Planner please visit: edutect.com/ChiangMAi2016/ (step by step instructions are here)

I believe that your understanding of the principles and practices of Understanding by Design will be enhanced through application.  Plus, you will leave with practical ideas to support your teaching.

See you soon!
