We can’t keep up with all the content we need to teach!

This is an often heard plea of teachers nowadays. With new facts being uncovered every day and with the uncertainty of what will be necessary in 5 or 10 years, it becomes increasingly difficult to try to ‘get it all in’.

Concept-based curriculum lays the emphasis not on the content but on the concepts, the big ideas, around the content, the why and how around the what.

Workshop Aim

This workshop will examine principles of concept-based curriculum and instruction and provide a basis for the approach by exploring the structure of knowledge and using generalizations to frame student understandings.

Topic Covered

  • Structure of knowledge and process

  • Writing and scaffolding generalizations

  • Designing a unit web

This hands-on webinar will equip participants with knowledge and skills  to answer the following questions:

  • How does a concept-based model develop a deeper and higher level of understanding?

  • How are concepts and topics different and how can they be used together?
